Hike to discover the Fierloz massif
The Fierloz massif (karstic plateau of 75 hectares) is located in the commune of ARTEMARE. This limestone plateau with lapiaz (5 sites in France) formed 140 million years ago in the Jurassic sea and today at an altitude of 300 meters offers a magnificent panorama of the landscapes of the Bas-Bugey. This site has been classified as a Sensitive Natural Area. It has been recognized as an area to be preserved and protected.
GEOLOGY : lapiazs on this site (5 in France) are numerous. They have been formed as a result of climate change, erosion and human activities. The limestone dissolved according to its purity, forming dissolution cracks (grikes). They separate tables of lapies (clints) whose shape and surface are related to the degree of cracking.
FLORA : in spring, your walks on this site will allow you to observe numerous species of orchids in the dry grassland. Boxwoods and maritime pines have populated the massif.
FAUNA: a wealth of fauna: many species of birds including the Circaète Jean Le Blanc, 8 species of bats, insects, reptiles, batrachians nest in this area.
This 2-hour walk (starting from the campsite), accessible to all, is offered at the reception to all our guests, translated into French, English and Dutch. A complete and detailed study on the fauna and flora of the site is available at the reception desk.
